Head of the Class debuted in the fall of 1986. The story revolved around a bunch of nerdy high school kids who have a new hip teacher, played by Howard Hessman. He would show them life was about more than school. The show was a success mainly due to Hessman and his rebel teacher role.
In 1990, Hessman left the show and was replaced by British Comedian Billy Connolly. While Billy is a funny man in his native Britain, he style just did not fit with the American audience. The show would go off the air in 1991.
